boxer shorts and marathon training

The plan for this weekend all along was to lounge, and that we did. There was some cooking, some cleaning, and some laundry, but none of it took precedent over relaxing. I did get a few more thank you notes written, so I'm inching closer to my goal, but for the most part it was a "do as you feel like doing" kind of weekend.

On Saturday before football started, I went to Target to get my eyes checked (uhh...it had been 10 years), and I ran through the aisles looking for a few things before my appointment. And while I was aiming directly for the laundry detergent aisle, I stumbled onto the nail polish in a foggy haze only knowing where I was, not how I had gotten there. And upon me was the Essie Yogaga Collection that I had been looking for for at least a month. I wish I was kidding, but I'd been to Ulta twice and had looked everywhere online that offered free shipping. So the under my breath "yes!" and mini fist pump that happened in the aisle was absolutely necessary, and I kid you not that it definitely happened.

I pinned boxer shorts and pilates hottie to my beauty board about a month ago, so those were the only two I had planned on getting. But when I saw the name "marathin", it was an instant need. And since I haven't done an "if you really knew me..." post, this is my one note: If you really knew me, you would know there is no way I'm not wearing that polish color on January 13th when I run the Walt Disney World 20th Anniversary Marathon!
And if only I were kidding about being that excited. But you know when you have that something that you are searching for high and low and then it appears before you? It was a moment.

And aside from my weekend of relaxing and nail polishing and other side things, I also had workout number two and number three to round out week one of my marathon training plan.

Number Two looked like this:
And while I was supposed to run six, I'm super pleased to have been able to get five in after a less than beautiful 2.75 miler on Thursday. It's so much slower than I was going before the surgery on August 7th (and I had to stop again, but only twice this time), but I guess it's to be expected after around 5 weeks of doing absolutely no working out. It was at a super even pace, though.
Hopefully it won't be too long before that super even pace has 9's and maybe one day high 8's in front of it. I only want to get faster because I'm so competitive with myself. I want to achieve the goals I have in my head for this marathon (besides finishing).

Workout three was BodyPump, which went so well. I mentioned to the teacher that I was going to leave before the abs because I was afraid because I had had surgery, and she showed me modifications to make so that I'd start to gain some ab strength back (that's the area that I'm going to have to work the hardest on because the muscle was actually cut through in the surgery). I lifted lighter than normal, and I was careful to really have good form, and it was great to be back! Hallelujah!

Here is a recap of training week one:
I intend for this to be the only week that I don't hit all the miles.

And that was the gist of my weekend. I hope yours was equally relaxing, exciting, and fulfilling! And I wish you a happy and stress free Monday. Stop by my giveaway later today!

Look up the Tupler Technique. It's aimed at women who are postpartum, but it may also be helpful following abdominal surgery. Elevators (think about pulling your belly button to your spine) were really helpful to me. Planks are also really good. If the surgery left a separation in you ab muscles, avoid crunches. It will all come together with time, even if it takes longer than you'd like.

Oh your post makes me a little sad. I was training for the Chicago marathon (a bucket list item) and I got a really bad stress fracture when it was just a month away. But this is awesome for you. I can't wait to hear about the updates. I can live vicariously through you! And I love all those Essie colors. So pretty!

Great job on your run! I bet each time you get out there it will get easier :). The last thing I need is a new nail polish but I might have to get marathin too!

SO awesome. That was a nice, even pace. Great job! Someday I will run a marathon....but for now I will have to be content with half marathon distance. Stupid, crazy, hectic schedule. Fantastic job!
